When decorating for fall, get the biggest bang for your buck by decorating for the season as a whole and not just a single holiday (Halloween or Thanksgiving.) Both days can be celebrated with one look of pumpkins, foliage, wreaths and candles to carry through September all the way to December.

Wreath

If you don’t consider yourself to be the most creative person or simply just don’t have the time, you can buy a wreath already decorated in fall tones. Check out places like Marshall’s or T.J. Maxx for well-priced options to hang on your door or maybe even inside, over your fireplace.

However, if you’re looking for a fun DIY project, you can begin with a store-bought grapevine wreath. Head over to a craft store to pick out your choice of decorative items to attach.

Set the Table

Spice up your dining room and/or kitchen table with an elegant table runner and a fall-inspired centerpiece.

To avoid the table looking too busy, find a solid color fabric for the table runner, preferably something on the lighter end – off-white, cream, light grey, etc.

Get colorful with your centerpiece. Put together a basket of little pumpkins, succulents, greenery, and other colorful pieces from nature like veggies or fruit (apples), that you would typically find in a cornucopia.

Pumpkins Galore

Pumpkins are of course the ultimate decorative piece for fall. And, the best part is that you can do so much with them.

  • line your steps with pumpkins you find in the store OR take the family on a fun pumpkin picking trip
  • gather a range of pumpkin sizes to stack on a small end table in a sitting area or on your front door end table
  • carve the top of a pumpkin out to make a festive vase to be filled with mums or other flowers of your choice
  • locate faux pumpkins at your local store to use as serving pieces
  • and of course, the most popular way of using pumpkins: paint them with stylish colors such as gold to continue the elegant style around the house

Garland

Create garland from beautiful greenery or veggies like corn to hang on your porch or outline the doorway with.

Candles

DUH.

Candles are a must all year round, let’s be honest. But, nothing compares to candles in the fall to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Gather together tealight candles and simply place them within your decorations (battery powered of course) or find holders in the shades of orange, yellow and red to randomly place around the house.
